My Story

Born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, James W. Scott is a young Classical Tenor currently studying under Dr. Margaret Schindler.

A keen performer, James found his love for singing listening to recordings of Anthony Warlow and took up singing publicly from a young age. Growing up James was a diverse musician, playing the Clarinet, Alto Saxophone and the Piano. James attended St Laurence’s College from 2010—2014 where he studied music under the guidance of Dr. Anthony Young and voice under Ireni Utley. In 2014 he auditioned for the Queensland Conservatorium of Music where he was accepted and began studying from 2015.

As a student of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, James has performed in the 2016 production of Die Zauberflöte under the direction of acclaimed stagecraft expert Anna Sweeney. Additionally he performed as “Patacha” in the 2017 Val Machin Opera Scenes of L’Etoile and in L’enfant et les sortilèges, directed by Stephen Barlow. James has received a number of scholarships to the Sound Thinking Australia Summer School during which he has performed scenes from operas such as Bastien und Bastienne (as Bastien), Die Totestadt (as Graf) and Carmen (as Le Dancaire) and also performed the role of Don Curzio in a full production of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. Outside of opera James performed in the Brisbane concert of Hans Zimmer Revealed at the Convention Centre. In 2018, James made his debut for Opera Queensland in the production of Peter Grimes and again in Verdi’s Requiem in 2019.
